Saturday Matinee - Michael Hedges

Michael Hedges revolutionized the playing of the acoustic guitar. Nobody to my knowledge had done any of the things he did. All the stuff people praise some of today's guitarists for was invented by him.

I saw him live once. He was on the bill of a group of Windham Hill artists, and I'd never heard of him until then. He came on last (looking back with the advantage of hindsight, I can see why), and I can still remember everyone in the aisle I was sitting in leaning forward at the same moment, saying "holy crap!" Somehow I knew at that moment that guitar playing had changed forever.

Here's a link to a video of the song he played that evening, called Aerial Boundaries.
